The Kennecott South Zone Cleanup Remedy
EPA and UDEQ are proposing a clarification to the remedy for Operable Unit 2,
Southwest Jordan River Valley Groundwater Plumes, of the Kennecott South Zone site.
The clarification is called an Explanation of Significant Differences (ESD). EPA and
UDEQ issued a joint Record of Decision (ROD) for this OU in December 2000. The
ROD was subsequently clarified by an ESD in August 2003. This pending ESD is the
second for this ROD.
This ESD does not substantively alter the remedy selected by the agencies. It clarifies the
selected remed y to enhance water management options, source controls and strengthens
performance standards.
EPA and UDEQ are providing a 30 day public review period for the pending ESD. The
public may submit comments on the ESD until December 8, 2006. Extension of the
review period will not be granted.
