Dear Gary Barney:The Division of Drinking Water (the Division) received information to obtain an Operating Permit for Morton Salt Inc. Pump Station #1 from you on December 12, 2024.
The Division did not issue Plan Approval for this project.
Our understanding of the project is that the facility was discovered during the 2024 Sanitary Survey. It was installed before the Division required Operating Permits. It is a pump station
with two, 5-horsepower (HP), stainless steel centrifugal pumps manufactured by Goulds. These pumps can pump up to 150 gallons per minute (gpm) at 3,500 revolutions per minute (rpm).
Based on the equipment plate, the pumps have NSF/ANSI 61 & 372 certification. The facility is identified as Morton Salt Pump Station #1 (PF001) in the Division’s database.
We have received the following information for Morton Salt Pump Station #1 (PF001):
Manufacturer information
Satisfactory bacteriological results as evidence of proper disinfection and flushing. Monthly sampling has resulted in two positive total coliform sample results in the past 10 years.
We have determined that all conditions for operating permit issuance have been met. On this basis, an Operating Permit for Morton Salt Pump Station #1 (PF001) is hereby issued as constituted
by this letter. You may now place Morton Salt Pump Station #1 (PF001) in service in your water system.
Please maintain a copy of this letter with your permanent records for future reference.The issuance of this Operating Permit resolves your water system’s deficiency [or deficiencies]
