SITE NAME: Airport West / North Temple Landfill
SITE LOCATION: Salt Lake City
DATE OF SITE VISIT: 20 December 2024
PURPOSE OF SITE VISIT: DERR (David Bird) oversight of field activities at the Airport West VCP site.
FIELD OBSERVATIONS: At ~ 9 am, the DERR met SITLA’s contractor, NT Development (Eric Rice),
Wasatch Environmental’s Certified Asbestos Inspector (Paige Williams), and concrete crushing
subcontractor, Staker Parsons (Clint) at the site, to discuss how the inspection for possible asbestos
containing material (ACM), and processing of concrete into roadbase material is progressing. There was
a pile of processed material already about 30 feet high on site. NT Development indicated that the
permit with DAQ is now in place, but is undergoing some minor revisions to reflect agreed upon field
changes. NT Development will forward a copy of it to me. We discussed with the certified ACM
inspector how the concrete, placed in windrows approximately 18 to 24 inches in height are being
inspected for potential ACM, with a final inspection of the resulting stockpile before it is loaded into the
crusher.
I was told the actual crushing of concrete started two days ago (18 DEC), and that no ACM had been
identified in that time frame. We discussed the requirements for dust control at the site. The expected
timeframe for the crushing of the concrete is 3 to 4 months. The DERR left the site at ~10:00 am.
SPLIT SAMPLES COLLECTED: No
