Dear Mr. Shepherd:
On April 4, 2022, Senergy Petroleum was loading an above ground tank at the above referenced site
when the tank burst and approximately 1,500 gallons of red-dyed diesel fuel was released. The fuel
flowed west of the tank and spread out across the dirt driveway and along the front edge of the
residential property, saturating the top few inches of soil. See Figure 1.
The impacted soil was immediately removed by scraping the soil with a front-end loader and hauling it
to Shepherd property northeast of the site where it was spread out across the dirt road to aerate.
Approximately 80-90 cubic yards of soil were removed.
On June 8, 2023, Rockwell Solutions collected soil samples from the landfarm. Samples were
collected from four to eight inches below ground surface. Sample locations are shown on Figure 1.
Samples were analyzed for benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes, naphthalene (BTEXN) using
EPA Method 8260B and total petroleum hydrocarbons-diesel range organics (TPH-DRO) using EPA
Method 8015b.
Laboratory analytical results are shown in Table 1. TPH-DRO concentrations remain above Tier 1
levels in samples SS#2 – SS#4, along most of the landfarm area. The landfarm area should be turned
to expose more of the soil to the air and sun. Another round of samples will be collected in 2024.
