Dear Mr. Anderson:
Part 4.6 of the BAT Performance Monitoring Plan (GWQDP Appendix J) states that the IUFshall be inspected annually during the second quarter; on June 25, 2024 EnergySolutions submitted
a request for an extension of this deadline in order to make necessary repairs at the Facility (DRC-2024-006059). After review, the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control
(Division) shall grant a temporary variance to this requirement, however, the timeline proposed by EnergySolutionshas not been justified, and thereforehas not been approved. The temporary
variance shall be granted given the following conditions:
Repairs to the northern bay of the IUF and the annual inspection of the north bay, ramps, and aprons by the Division shall be completed by July 31, 2024.
Pleasesubmit a Corrective Action Plan for the south bay of the IUF, including a description of repairs, contractor information, and projected dates of repair, to the Division within
30 days from the date of this letter. Repairs to the south bay and the annual inspection by the Division shall be completed no later than October 1, 2024.
As a reminder, the south bay of the IUF remains out of service, therefore, no waste shall be stored or managed on the southern half of the IUF until it has been put back into service.
