Sitara, Mark, and Dani,
Hope you are all doing well. We received the attached letter from your team this last week and had some
questions about where the number for our population served of 105,194 came from. During our recent sanitary
survey, Gordon Batt, from our of ice provided the number or 45,694. This is slightly up from our last survey, but
only by a hundred or so. I have also attached the survey summary from Dani with that 45,694 re lected. Could
either of you please provide some insight on this before we start making changes to our sampling site plan?
Thanks in advance for your time.
Thanks,
Jon Hilbert

Hi Jon,
I can try and answer your question, Sitara and Mark feel free to correct me. Population for DDW is the sum of the
residential + transient + non transient populations reported on the surveys. So that is where the 105,000 comes from from
the survey results.
Now, I'll try and explain the 20,000 increase over the 100 increase you were expecting. Even though in 2021 we put the
residential population as 45,069 it was not updated in our system. Based on the draft survey I sent to Gordon this year it
looks like we still had the residential population listed as 23,000 people for the start of the 2024 survey. This year it was
updated with the numbers entered into the 2024 survey results. Let me know if you need any of the attachments
mentioned.

Thanks, Dani. We were not aware of the other two population numbers. Do you by chance know where the
54,000 and 5,500 transient and non-transient population numbers came from? I am assuming that was us some
time ago, but we don’t seem to have any indication of reporting those. If those did come from us, we may need
some time to update those and get some more accurate numbers.
Thanks,

Hi Jon,
I do not have a record of where those numbers in the database came from or the reasoning behind them. The 54,000
transient and 5,500 non-transient populations were entered into our database back in 2005 and survey records going
back to 2011 have those population numbers included. To my knowledge the populations are provided by the water
system's during sanitary surveys. If you want to relook at the numbers and provide updated ones you are more than
welcome to do so.

Thanks, Dani. Per our conversation today at the Alliance meeting, and for Mark and Sitara, we are going to work
on updating our population numbers by November 1st. If things don’t change much we will still collect the
necessary samples in November. If there is anything else we might need, please let us know. Thanks again for all
the responses and feedback.

HI Dani,
Sorry it has taken some time. Transient and non-transient numbers are difficult to gather. Would love to see some
guidance from the state on this in the future. With that said, we have updated our population numbers, and I wanted to
provide them to you. They are as follows:
Retail: 45,694
Transient: 26,928
Non-Transient: 26,713
Grand Total: 101,335
Let me know if you have any questions. Happy Holidays!
Thanks,

Great! Thank you Jon. I don't really have any commentary on the numbers. However, I would like to know how you got
those.
Do you want me to send these to Mz. T or Keri so they can be updated on waterlink?

Thanks, Dani. Our analytics team got these numbers, but the short of it is that they followed guidance from R309-510-7(2)
Table 510-1, and R309-100-4(1)(c). Additionally, especially for transient population, we used census data to help as well.
With numerous conservative assumptions used in the estimate, we believe that our estimate results in higher number
than the real population served by JVWCD.
And yes, if you could get it to the appropriate people to update, we would appreciate it.
