Re: Energy Solutions Borrow Pit Sampling and Testing
Dear Ms. Cooper:
RB&G Engineering was retained by Energy Solutions to assist with the sampling and testing for the on-site
borrow pit materials located at the Clive, UT facility. We were provided with a sampling and analysis plan,
and the work was done in general compliance with this document, except for Energy Solutions asked RB&G
to perform the field work to obtain the samples for testing. Energy Solutions personnel had divided the
stockpile into 15 lots with seven along the north side, seven along the south side and one on the east end.
These lots were identified and marked with paint prior to our arrival to perform the field work.
The sampling was accomplished by digging into the stockpile at each lot location with a large wheel loader,
operated by Energy Solutions personnel, to obtain a representative sample. This sample was then processed
on site with the plus 2-inch material being sized using appropriate sieves and each size of rock weighed.
Representative samples of the different size rock were obtained to determine moisture content in the
laboratory. The minus 2-inch material was then split on site using a splitter to obtain the requested four, 5-
gallon bucket samples. Two buckets of each sample were left onsite to be shipped to Daniel B Stephens and
Associates. The other two buckets for each sample were then transported to RB&G Engineering’s main lab
located in Provo, UT for the remaining sieve analysis and hydrometer testing. This procedure was repeated
for all 15 lots.
If there are any questions relating to the information contained herein, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
RB&G ENGINEERING, INC.
