Gurr <sdgurr@energysolutions.com> Date: Mon, Nov 11, 2024 at 11:57 AM Subject: 2024 2nd Semi-Annual PCB Soil Sampling Data To: Llrw@utah.gov <llrw@utah.gov> Cc: Treesa Parker <tparker@energysolutions.com>, Karen Kirkwood <kxkirkwood@energysolutions.com>, Kristina M. Garcia <kmgarcia@energysolutions.com>, Steve D. Gurr <sdgurr@energysolutions.com> In accordance with Condition 12.e.i in Attachment II-1-10, Management of Waste Containing Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs) at the Mixed Waste Facility, of the state-issued Part B Permit, EnergySolutions is required to notify the DWMRC of any PCB detections from soil monitoring events. Attached is the laboratory analytical report from the second semi-annual soil sampling event in 2024 (collected on October 24, 2024). Summary tables of this data and of all historical data is also attached. There were 4 stations that had detectable PCBs. A summary of these detections is as follows: Station 26 (located NE of the MWOB) had a non-quantifiable PCB detections of Aroclor 1254. This detection is slightly elevated, but similar to those seen at this location in previous years, the contamination does not appear to be significantly increasing above previous years. Station 28 (South of MW) had non-quantifiable PCB detections of Aroclors 1254 and 1260. These detections are similar to those seen at this location in previous years, the contamination does not appear to be increasing. Station 73 (NE of Rotary Dump) had a non-quantifiable PCB detections of Aroclor 1254. This detection is similar to those seen at this location in previous years, the contamination does not appear to be increasing. Station 77 (West of LLRW Ops Building) had a non-quantifiable PCB detections of Aroclor 1254. This detection is similar to those seen at this location in previous years, the contamination does not appear to be increasing. Although slight PCB contamination is noted, the detections are all minimal; orders of magnitude below the regulatory threshold level for PCB contamination (50 mg/kg). All stations will continue to be examined closely in future events for trends, positive and negative. Further details will be reported in the annual report that will be provided by March 31, 2025.
