Subject:Radioactive Material License UT2300249; Request for Approval to
Use/Reuse Radiologically Contaminated Equipment
Dear Mr. Hansen:
EnergySolutions herein requests approval from the Director of the Division of Waste
Management and Radiation Control (DWMRC) approval to receive and use/reuse ISO
(International Organization for Standardization) Tank ESUU600122 (tank) in accordance
with EnergySolutions Clive procedure CL-RS-PR-114; Receipt and Evaluation of
Radiologically Contaminated Material and Equipment for Use/Reuse at EnergySolutions.
EnergySolutions plans to receive the tank for temporary storage/transfer needs at the
Clive Facility. The Tank is being received from EnergySolutions Bear Creek Facility in
Oak Ridge, Tennessee. The Tank was used for transportation and or storage of
radiologically contaminated liquids.
A Radiological Screening Evaluation of Equipment for Reuse at the EnergySolutions
Clive Facility is attached. It includes a description of the equipment, a brief history of the
equipment, potential isotopes within the equipment, dose and contamination levels, and
other pertinent information. A list of the attached documents included are as follows:
• ISO Tanker #ESUU 600122 Contamination/Radiation Survey
• INC Tennelec Low Background Counting System- Smear Analysis
• SNM Exemption Certification (provided at time of shipment)
Upon Division approval, the equipment will be logged and tracked in accordance with
CL-RS-PR-114;Receipt and Evaluation of Radiologically Contaminated Material and
Equipment for Use/Reuse at EnergySolutions.
