RE:2024 Module 1 Engineering Inspection – LLRW & 11e.(2) Berms and Site Survey. Radioactive Material License (RML) UT2300249: Closeout Letter
Dear Mr. Rogers,
An engineering inspection was conducted at the EnergySolutions (ES) Clive facility on August 22, 2024, and onSeptember 12, 2024 the berm reports were review by a representative of the
Utah Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (Division).
This module examines: runoff control berms and fences, run-on control berms, Section 32 survey points, monthly berm inspections, and the annual berm survey in accordance with established
procedures of the LLRW and 11e.(2) Construction Quality Assurance / Quality Control (CQA/QC) Manual (Rev. 28c). All records between August 2023 to August 2024 were reviewed as part
of this inspection. The inspection also included a field observation of the run-on and run-off control berms and fences for the inspection record. It shall be noted that a berm has
been built around the bone yard area in the east side drainage area, but the bone yard area is not clay lined.
The monthly paperwork appeared to be in order and EnergySolutions has established spreadsheets, and drawings that help them track berm construction and maintenance. In addition, all
the property corners and monuments were located and found to be in good condition.
A closeout meeting was held on September12, 2024, with Mr. James Cason, and later with Ms. Shauna Watkins. WMRC Staff discussed the findings observed during the inspection. During the
August berm inspection, the berms were in the process of being repaired for grade and erosion damage, all the repairs were observed to be repaired later in September follow up inspection.
No other apparent violations were observed during the inspections. WMRC staff did bring some erosion to EnergySolutions attention, and the plan is future site visits to look at erosion
repair per CQA/QC. The 2024 Module 1 Berms and Site Survey inspection is hereby considered closed.

Sincerely,
