Direct Push Services was employed as the drilling contractor under the supervision of a Rockwell Solutions representative. Five-foot soil core samples were collected continuously from the direct push boring to replace MW- 16. A portion of the soil core was put in a zip-lock baggie to allow hydrocarbons to volatilize. The air in the zip lock baggie was then screened with a photoionization detector (PID). A soil sample was collected from just above the apparent groundwater table and submitted for laboratory analysis of MTBE, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, xylenes, naphthalene (MBTEXN), and total petroleum hydrocarbons-gasoline range organics (TPH-GRO) using EPA Method 8260 and TPH-diesel range organics (TPH-DRO) using EPA Method 8015. A monitoring wells was installed in the boring to a depth of thirteen feet with ten feet of 0.010-inch screen. The well contains a silica sand filter around the screen and a bentonite seal above the screen. A flush grade well protector was installed at the surface. The top-of-casing elevation was measured to the nearest 0.01 foot using a transit level. The boring log and monitoring well construction diagram is attached. Soil type was evaluated by field analysis of soil samples. The native soil consists of silt and silty clay. Table 1 lists the analytical results of soil samples collected at the site, including the sample from MW-16R. No hydrocarbons were detected in the sample. Rockwell Solutions collected groundwater samples at the above-referenced site on May 27 and June 7, 2024. Groundwater measurements and samples were collected from monitoring wells MW-2, MW-3, MW-4R, MW-5, MW-7, MW-10, MW-12, MW-14, MW-14R, MW-16R, MW-17, and MW-18. The twelve wells were sampled using standard measuring, purging, and sampling procedures. Each groundwater sample was immediately placed on ice and retained under chain-of-custody documentation until relinquished to the laboratory. Samples were submitted for analysis of MTBE, benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes, naphthalene (MBTEXN) and total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH) - gasoline range organics (GRO) using EPA Method 8260 and TPH-diesel range organics (DRO) using EPA Method 8015. Chemtech-Ford conducted the laboratory analyses. Laboratory reports are attached. A summary of historical groundwater monitoring data including groundwater elevation and laboratory analytical data is presented in Table 1 and a groundwater elevation map is presented as Figure 1. Groundwater flow was to the south-southwest in May and June 2024. Benzene concentrations continue to exceed Tier 1 cleanup levels in MW-3 and MW-4R. No other constituent exceeds a Tier 1 level in MW-3 or MW-4R, or in any other monitoring well. Concentrations exceed Initial Screening Levels (ISLs) in six other monitoring wells, including the TPH-DRO concentration in MW-16R, the newly replaced well. Hydrocarbon concentrations appear to be stable over the last few years of monitoring. As requested by DERR, the next groundwater monitoring event will take place in approximately nine months.
