Division of Drinking Water Department of Environmental Quality 195 North 1950 West Salt Lake City, UT 84114 Re: Park City Municipal Corporation Water System #22011 – 835 Empire Avenue Park City Minimum Separation Requirement – Exception Request Dear Ms Zebelean: Park City Municipal Corporation Public Utilities Department has reviewed the Residential Single Family-Addition plans located at 835 Empire Avenue, Park City, UT 84060. Due to a narrow lot and existing conditions the sanitary sewer lateral and water service line are within 3.5 feet of each other as the utilities enter/exit the home footprint, Figure 1. Due to the sewer main location/elevation and cover requirements, the sewer lateral alignment shown is the only feasible option to allow gravity feed from the residence to the sewer main. This is based on information from Snyderville Basin Water Reclamation District. Figure 1: 835 Empire Ave Utility Layout Park City Municipal Corporation ~ 445 Marsac Avenue ~ P.O. Box 1480 ~ Park City, UT 84060-1480 Phone: (435) 615 5057 The required sewer location results in a small window for the water service line to installed south of the sewer lateral. It may appear that the water service line can be moved further south as it exits the home, but the mechanical room and foundation wall is inset from the edge of the house as shown in Figure 2. The water service line is shown exiting from the southernmost point of the foundation. Figure 2: Profile View of Foundation Inset Sewer lateral pipe material is 4” PVC. Water service line material is 2” HDPE pipe. The minimum vertical separation between the water service and sewer lateral is approximately 30” as the utilities enter/exit the home footprint which meets the 18” vertical separation requirement of DDW. High Groundwater has not been observed in the area. Based on the conditions described above, the water service line and sanitary sewer lateral can't be installed with the required horizontal separation required by Division of Drinking Water. It is proposed that the 2” water service to the home be fully encased in flowable fill concrete 12” above, below and on each side the water line from the home foundation to the water meter, Figure 3. Please let us know if additional information is needed. Sincerely, Harrison Holley, P.E. Public Utilities Engineer
