Rogers, Director of Regulatory Affairs 299 South Main Street, Suite 1700 Salt Lake City, UT 84111 RE:Hanford Test Bed Initiative Demonstration Waste Dear Mr. Rogers: The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (the ‘Division’) has reviewed and re-examined the Department of Energy’s Final Waste Incidental to Reprocessing Evaluation for the Test Bed Initiative Demonstration concerning waste yet to be generated at the Hanford Site. Based on analysis provided by the Department of Energy’s Report (DOE/ORP-2022-02), the Division has determined that thewaste to be generated from the Test Bed Initiative Demonstration meets the definition of Class A Low-Level Radioactive Waste as described in Utah Administrative Code R313-15-1009. Additionally, as the above-mentioned report states that the Department of Energy is committed to verifying that the waste in question meets all applicable requirements for shipment to and receipt by EnergySolutions’ Clive Facility, the Division wishes to also reaffirm its commitment to ensuring that all candidate waste to be sent to the Clive Facility meets its Waste Acceptance Criteria. As such, the Division reserves the right to inspect incoming Test Bed Initiative waste shipments that arrive at the Clive Facility.
