Re: State of Utah Ground Water Discharge Permit No. UGW370004
White Mesa Uranium Mill - Removal of Certain Groundwater Monitoring Parameters
from Accelerated Monitoring Status
Dear Mr Lundberg
A number of groundwater monitonng constituents have been placed on accelerated monitoring status
under Part IG 1 of the Denison Mines (USA) Corp Ground Water Discharge Permit No UGW370004
("GWDP") Part IG 1 provides that such accelerated monitoring shall continue until compliance status of
the facility can be determined by the Director
Based on the accelerated monitoring resuhs to date, Denison requests the Director make a determination
that accelerated momtonng cease at this time for Total Dissolved Solids ("TDS") in MW-26, and field pH
in MW-25, MW-30 and MW-31 for the reasons stated below
• MW-26 TDS results have been below the Groundwater Compliance Limit ("GWCL") specified
in the GWDP for fourteen consecutive sampling events since Q2 2011 Per the UDEQ letters of
May 30, 2006, October 31, 2011 and April 25, 2012, eight consecutive sample results below the
GWCL are needed for the discontinuance of accelerated monitonng
• MW-25 field pH results have been within the GWCL limits specified in the GWDP for ten
sampling events since September 2011 Per the UDEQ letters of May 30, 2006, October 31,
2011 and Apnl 25, 2012, eight consecutive sample results below the GWCL are needed for the
discontinuance of accelerated momtonng
• MW-30 and MW-31 field pH results have been withm the GWCL limits specified in the GWDP
for fourteen sampling events since the start of accelerated monitoring in July 2011 Per the
UDEQ letters of May 30, 2006, October 31, 2011 and Apnl 25, 2012, eight consecutive sample
results below the GWCL are needed for the discontinuance of accelerated monitonng
Once removed from accelerated monitonng status, these constituents, like all other constituents, would be
subject to future accelerated monitoring under Part IG 1 of the GWDP, should circumstances warrant
To assist in your evaluation of the foregoing, we have included a summary of the accelerated sampling
results since the initial sample result that tnggered accelerated monitonng
