Re: State of Utah Ground Water Discharge Permit No. UW370004 (the "GWDP") White
Mesa Uranium Mill - Notice Pursuant to Part I.G^.l(a)
Dear Mr. Finerfrock: i
The White Mesa uranium mill (the "Mill") completed its 3rd Charter, 2009 groundwater sampling the
under the GWDP on August 17,18,19,24, 25, 26 and 31,2009. Final analytical results were received
in four batches, three on September 21 and one on October 2,2009.
Under the GWDP it is intended that background groundwater quality will be determined on a well-by-
well basis, as defmed by the mean plus second standard deviation concentration. The Mill is currently
in the process of woridng with the Utah Division of Radiation Control to estabUsh background
(including the mean plus standard deviation) for all ofthe constituents being sampled under the
GWDP. Until back^ound is established, the GWDP requires that constituent concentrations in each
monitoring well shall not exceed the Groundwater Control Limits ("GWCLs") set out in Table 2 ofthe
GWDP. I
Pursuant to Part I.G. l.a) ofthe GWDP, please take notice that the concentrations ofthe following
constituents in the following monitoring wells sampled for the 3"* Quarter, 2009 exceeded their
respective GWCLs in Table 2 of the Pennit:
