Dear Mr. Hansen
In October 2024, the Air Force Civil Engineer Center (AFCEC) Hill Section provided notice
to DWMRC via email of planned groundwater sampling activities at Landfill 5, Utah Test and
Training Range (UTTR). The notice included a plan to sample Landfill 5 compliance and
detection monitoring wells from 4-8 November 2024. However, with issuance of a new
Hazardous Waste Operating Permit for the UTTR on 24 October 2024, Landfill 5 groundwater
sampling is to occur annually and coincide with the highest groundwater levels, typically in
spring. As a result, AFCEC would like to request a deviation from the original plan (since
sampling was scheduled under the September 2013 permit) and change the next sampling event
from November 2024 to Spring 2025 (in accordance with the October 2024 permit).
If you have any questions please contact our Hill Air Force Base AFCEC Project Manager,
Ms. Elizabeth Tevault, at (801) 777-3804.
