On September 4-5, 2024,Tesoro Refining and Marketing Company LLC in Salt Lake City, Utah
(Tesoro) experienced smoking of the north flare. These emissions occurred while the Fluid Catalytic
Cracking Unit (FCCU) was shutting down due to a compressor trip and when starting up the unit
after repair.
An initial notification of the breakdown was made by Chris Kaiser to Jeremy Marsigli at l6:50 on
September 5,2024.
CAUSEAIATURE OF RELEASE AND CORRECTIVE ACTIONS:
Operators increased steam flow to North Flare.
