Comment (Required)Some of the special wastes are liquid non-hazardous waste which are
emptied into Pond 1 to enhance evaporation. Pond 2 was not accepting
liquid waste at the time of the inspection. There are three “boiler makers”
immersed in Pond 2 that churn the water to help with evaporation, and
barrel skimmers are used to remove oil from the surface. This is part of
Wasatch Regional’s plan to eliminate oil. Pond 3 receives pumped-in
leachate (from the landfill) where it evaporates. Potential non-hazardous
oily liquids are sent directly to the Solidification Pit. There it is mixed with
dry absorbent solid waste to pass the Paint Filter Test.
