Silver Creek Rd. Park City, Utah 84098 PREPARED FOR: Jacksons Food Stores 3430 East Commercial Court Meridian, Idaho 83642 SUBMITTED: October 18, 2024 Groundwater Monitoring Report – October 2024 J Oil #5820 Richfield, UT Underwood Environmental Consulting, Inc. 1 1.0 INTRODUCTION Underwood Environmental Consulting, Inc. (UEC) has been retained by Jacksons Food Stores to perform groundwater monitoring at J Oil #5820, a fuel station located at 305 South Main St., Richfield, Utah (project site) (Figure 1). The project site is referred to as Facility ID #2000222, Release Site GUP, in Utah Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR) records and correspondence. The groundwater monitoring is being conducted in response to the “Additional Sampling Requirements” letter, dated March 15, 2024, from the DERR project manager. 2.0 BACKGROUND The “Additional Sampling Requirements” letter recommended two rounds of groundwater sampling for gasoline constituents at down-gradient monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-A. It was also stipulated that if representative groundwater samples could not be collected, due to the decline in the water table, that MW-1 and/or MW-A should be deepened or replaced (DERR, 2024). In April 2024, UEC personnel visited the Richfield project site to assess the condition of monitoring wells MW-1 and MW-A. Monitoring well MW-A was found to have an adequate water column and was sampled. MW-1 was observed to not be deep enough to allow collection of representative groundwater samples. In May 2024, MW-1 was abandoned and replaced with a deeper monitoring well (MW-1R). No petroleum hydrocarbons were detected in the initial groundwater sample. More details on well replacement are found in the previous groundwater monitoring report (UEC, 2024). 3.0 METHODOLOGY UEC personnel visited the Richfield project site on October 8, 2024 to collect select groundwater level measurements and to sample monitoring wells MW-A and MW-1R. The two monitor wells were purged of three casing volumes of water, or until dry, prior to sampling. A separate disposable bailer was utilized to sample each well. The groundwater samples were labeled appropriately, placed on ice, and submitted to the laboratory under chain-of-custody. The groundwater samples were analyzed for methyl tertiary butyl ether (MTBE), benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, total xylenes, naphthalene (BTEXN), and total petroleum hydrocarbons – gasoline range organics (TPH-GRO) using EPA methods 8260D and 8260B/C. Groundwater Monitoring Report – October 2024 J Oil #5820 Richfield, UT Underwood Environmental Consulting, Inc. 2 4.0 FINDINGS 4.1 October 2024 - Depth to Water and Flow Direction Depth to groundwater measurements were used to calculate relative groundwater elevations across the site. The water level at MW-2 was the same as measured six months ago, while other water levels changed, so, the water level at MW-2 is viewed as suspect. Figure 1 depicts a groundwater contour map for the site on October 8, 2024 based on limited data points. The groundwater flow direction was determined to be south-southeast, the same as determined previously. 4.2 Groundwater Analytical Results In October 2024, no MTBE, BTEXN, or TPH-GRO was detected in the groundwater samples collected from MW-1R and MW-A. The laboratory analytical reports and chain of custody documentation are provided as an attachment. 5.0 CONCLUSIONS Based on field observations in 2024 and the groundwater analytical results of October 2024, the following conclusions are presented: • Monitoring well MW-1 was abandoned and replaced in May 2024. The replacement well is about seven feet deeper and designated MW-1R. • The groundwater flow direction in October 2024 was to the south-southeast. • No MTBE, BTEXN, or TPH-GRO was detected in the groundwater samples collected from MW-1R and MW-A in October 2024. Given the lack on petroleum hydrocarbons detected in groundwater at MW- 1R and MW-A, release site GUP should be considered for closure. 6.0 LIMITATIONS Our services consist of professional opinions from a state-certified consultant, made in general accordance with locally accepted environmental practices at the time of execution. Environmental samples are obtained from specific locations, utilizing methodologies consistent with Utah Department of Environmental Quality regulations. UEC makes no guarantee, either expressed or implied, that the analytical results accurately represent subsurface conditions throughout the entire project site.
