Hi Alisha
Drinking water source protection plans are a tool for water systems to monitor and address potential contamination sources (PCSs) that could pollute their wells or springs.
Public water systems are required to update their DWSP plans every six years. This involves reviewing what, if any, PCSs have moved into or out of the source's protection
zones. Some systems have PCSs that are considered uncontrolled. Uncontrolled PCSs require systems to implement additional management strategies. This typically
involves the distribution of public education material. Below is what Wallsburg agreed to do for their uncontrolled PCS. I will need this done before I can concur with your update.
The Town Well (WS002) has several uncontrolled potential contamination sources (PCSs). These PCSs include residential homes, septic systems, fuel storage tanks,active/abandoned wells, and animal feeding operations. Wallsburg Town Water System agreed to use public education to manage these uncontrolled PCSs. For me tobe able to concur with the updated plan I will need you to show that public education was distributed to uncontrolled PCSs within your protection zones. I've attachedthe updated DWSP plan from 2017. This prior plan successfully documented implementation and should be used as a reference for what a complete, concurable
update looks like. The public education material on pages 8-16 are what needs to be distributed to residents in the protection zones. Many systems either distribute this
material as a bill stuffer, email this info, hand deliver the material, or post this information to the system's website. Please distribute this material to all
residences within the protection zones and reply to this email with the date it was implemented. Provide a copy of what was distributed if different than pages 8-
16 in the prior plan update. Systems must implement strategies at least once every update cycle (six years).
Not required but highly advised — The Town Well was previously approved for a susceptibility monitoring reduction waiver in 2018. Reduction waivers are a great toolfor systems to reduce the frequency of water quality samples required by the state. Waivers need to be renewed every update cycle (six years) to remain active.
Please sign and date the attached susceptibility waiver if you would like to keep the reduced monitoring schedule.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks

Hi Li,
I'm forwarding you this email chain with Wallsburg regarding the Town Well (WS002) updated DWSP. I've also attached the original DWSP plan and disapproval letter. Myoriginal email to Wallsburg discusses this in more detail, but essentially they did not provide implementation documentation.
Let me know if there are any questions.
