INTRODUCTION The work conducted on August 14, 2024, was performed on behalf of the Utah Department Environmental Quality, Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DERR), under Work Assignment MUZ-03. FIELD PARAMETER WELL PURGING PROCEDURES AND CHEMICAL ANALYSIS The approved work plan included collecting water samples from monitoring wells MW -A through MW -G. Prior to well purging, groundwater depths were measured in each well using an electronic water level/free product interface probe. The water level/free product interface probe was decontaminated between each well with an Alconox detergent wash and tap water rinse. Following field parameter measurements, the monitoring wells were purged using new, factory- sealed disposable PVC bailers. All the monitoring wells sampled were purged three well casing volumes or until dry. Groundwater removed from the wells was poured on the ground surface and allowed to evaporate. After the purging process, the wells were allowed to recharge to within 95 percent of the pre-purge water level before groundwater samples were collected. The samples were transferred to appropriate containers and immediately placed on ice in an insulated cooler and then transported under chain-of-custody documentation to a Utah-certified laboratory for analysis. The site map depicting the groundwater monitoring well locations and surrounding area features is presented as Figure 1. The groundwater samples were submitted to a State of Utah certified laboratory for methyl tert- butyl ether (MTBE), benzene, toluene, ethyl benzene, total xylenes, naphthalene (MBTEXN) and total petroleum hydrocarbons as gasoline (TPH-GRO) using EPA Method 8260, and for TPH as diesel (TPH-DRO) using EPA Method 8015. 358 South 700 East, B518 Salt Lake City, Utah 84102 Office: 801.935.4917 www.oneatlas.com Page 2 ATLAS Field Parameter and Chemical Analysis Results The groundwater elevation data collected from the monitoring wells were utilized to prepare a groundwater gradient map for the site. The groundwater elevation data indicates groundwater flows to the northwest at a gradient of 0.030 ft/ft between MW -D and MW -F. The groundwater gradient map is presented as Figure 2. Review of the groundwater laboratory data indicated the presence of benzene above the Initial Screening Level (ISL) of 0.005 mg/L in MW -B (0.0515 mg/L), MW -C (0.177 mg/L), MW -F (0.113 mg/L), and MW -G (0.0957 mg/L). No other MBTEXN constituents were measured above their respective ISLs. TPH-GRO was measured at or above the ISL of 1.0 mg/L in MW -B (1.560 mg/L), MW -C (7.970 mg/L), MW -D (1.480 mg/L), MW -F (2.140 mg/L), and MW-G (1.000 mg/L). TPH-DRO was measured at or above the ISL of 1.0 mg/L in MW -B (1.110 mg/L), MW -C (3.840 mg/L), MW -F (2.470 mg/L), and MW -G (2.160 mg/L). The groundwater analytical results are summarized in Table 1 and a copy of the analytical report is included in Appendix A. CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS Review of the groundwater data indicates the presence of benzene, TPH-GRO, and TPH-DRO above their respective ISLs. Based upon the August 2024 laboratory results and historical groundwater monitoring data collected at the site, Atlas recommends the quarterly groundwater monitoring program continue at the site. The August 2024 sampling round was the first groundwater monitoring event under Work Assignment MUZ-03. The next groundwater monitoring event is scheduled for November 2024. This is not intended as a comprehensive explanation, and if you have additional questions please contact your project representative. Results Disclaimer - Information that may be provided by the customer, and contained within this report, include Permit Limits, Project Name, Sample ID, Sample Matrix, Sample Preservation, Field Blanks, Field Spikes, Field Duplicates, On-Site Data, Sampling Collection Dates/Times, and Sampling Location. Results relate to the accuracy of this information provided, and as the samples are received. Abbreviations and Definitions MDL Method Detection Limit. RDL Reported Detection Limit. Rec.Recovery. RPD Relative Percent Difference. SDG Sample Delivery Group. (S) Surrogate (Surrogate Standard) - Analytes added to every blank, sample, Laboratory Control Sample/Duplicate and Matrix Spike/Duplicate; used to evaluate analytical efficiency by measuring recovery. Surrogates are not expected to be detected in all environmental media. U Not detected at the Reporting Limit (or MDL where applicable). Analyte The name of the particular compound or analysis performed. Some Analyses and Methods will have multiple analytes reported. Dilution If the sample matrix contains an interfering material, the sample preparation volume or weight values differ from the standard, or if concentrations of analytes in the sample are higher than the highest limit of concentration that the laboratory can accurately report, the sample may be diluted for analysis. If a value different than 1 is used in this field, the result reported has already been corrected for this factor. Limits These are the target % recovery ranges or % difference value that the laboratory has historically determined as normal for the method and analyte being reported. Successful QC Sample analysis will target all analytes recovered or duplicated within these ranges. Qualifier This column provides a letter and/or number designation that corresponds to additional information concerning the result reported. If a Qualifier is present, a definition per Qualifier is provided within the Glossary and Definitions page and potentially a discussion of possible implications of the Qualifier in the Case Narrative if applicable. Result The actual analytical final result (corrected for any sample specific characteristics) reported for your sample. If there was no measurable result returned for a specific analyte, the result in this column may state “ND” (Not Detected) or “BDL” (Below Detectable Levels). The information in the results column should always be accompanied by either an MDL (Method Detection Limit) or RDL (Reporting Detection Limit) that defines the lowest value that the laboratory could detect or report for this analyte. Uncertainty (Radiochemistry)Confidence level of 2 sigma. Case Narrative (Cn) A brief discussion about the included sample results, including a discussion of any non-conformances to protocol observed either at sample receipt by the laboratory from the field or during the analytical process. If present, there will be a section in the Case Narrative to discuss the meaning of any data qualifiers used in the report. Quality Control Summary (Qc) This section of the report includes the results of the laboratory quality control analyses required by procedure or analytical methods to assist in evaluating the validity of the results reported for your samples. These analyses are not being performed on your samples typically, but on laboratory generated material. Sample Chain of Custody (Sc) This is the document created in the field when your samples were initially collected. This is used to verify the time and date of collection, the person collecting the samples, and the analyses that the laboratory is requested to perform. This chain of custody also documents all persons (excluding commercial shippers) that have had control or possession of the samples from the time of collection until delivery to the laboratory for analysis. Sample Results (Sr) This section of your report will provide the results of all testing performed on your samples. These results are provided by sample ID and are separated by the analyses performed on each sample. The header line of each analysis section for each sample will provide the name and method number for the analysis reported. Sample Summary (Ss)This section of the Analytical Report defines the specific analyses performed for each sample ID, including the dates and times of preparation and/or analysis.
