CREDENTIALS, PURPOSE, AND SCOPE:
The purpose of this Compliance Assistance Visit was to assist the facility in evaluating their
planned waste management practices for compliance with applicable rules under R315 of the
Utah Administrative Code and the Utah Solid and Hazardous Waste Act 19-6-101.
FACILITY DESCRIPTION:
Hammon Plating is an industrial facility currently under construction in Salt Lake City. The
facility is being renovated by Anderson Engineering to make it compatible for gold, silver, and
nickel-plating operations.
NARRATIVE:
I arrived at the facility and met with Isaac Faldmo, Project Manager. He indicated that
construction of the facility is nearly complete. Mr. Faldmo wanted to ensure that Hammon
Plating meets all their regulatory requirements. He stated that most of the waste they will
generate will be passed through their wastewater treatment system and discharged to the City of
Salt Lake. He stated that he has obtained a pretreatment permit with the City of Salt Lake.
I provided him with EPA’s “Managing Your Hazardous Waste: A Guide for Small Businesses”
pamphlet, the inspection checklists we use, and the 8700-12 form. I also invited him to attend
our training for hazardous waste generators on May 15th and 16th, 2024. I explained our
inspection process and we discussed how he would quantity the amount of waste he was
generating each month.
We viewed the wastewater treatment system and their planned chemical (product) storage area.
They will be reclaiming metals wherever they are able throughout the process. From the walk-
through and our discussion, it appeared that the only hazardous waste they would generate would
be filter cake. Mr. Faldmo indicated that he thought the amounts they would generate would put
them in the small quantity generator category.
I left the site at approximately 10:40 a.m.
