I wanted to follow up with you about our discussion concerning the path forward. 1. SITLA will have over 300 tons of roadbase material delivered to the site in the next 1-3 weeks for use in restoring the cover of the Repository and will exceed the design thickness in lower areas to help reduce the potential for erosion in the future. In addition, rock typically with a diameter of at least 8 inches will also be delivered to the site, and used in combination with existing rock already on the cover to armor areas of the cover or adjacent to the cover. 2. At the southern boundary of the Repository adjacent to the fenceline, a rock barrier will be built at least 8 inches high to reduce the slope of the cover at this location and reduce the potential for erosion. This will be in addition to the required cover thickness of 15 inches above the fabric marker barrier in the original design. Additional filter fabric will be part of this barrier on the upgradient side of the rock. 3. At the eastern portion of the Repository where erosion has damaged the fabric marker barrier and eroded the underlying layer of cover material, a vertical layer (wall) of rock will be placed beginning at the current grade (or deeper) in order to protect the Repository cover from future movement of water in the drainage channel immediately to the east of the Repository. As the rock wall is built, the Repository cover layers will be restored immediately west of this protective rock. A fabric layer will also be placed with the rock. The goal of placing this rock will be to prevent future erosion of the Repository cover at the eastern boundary. 4. SITLA will keep me (DERR) updated on the preparations and schedule for doing the restoration work. DERR may visit the site and/or SITLA will facetime with the DERR to facilitate the process of observing the construction/restoration of the Repository cover. Please let me know if I've misrepresented or missed anything in this brief summary. Thanks a lot for your help on this project. I think your recap is accurate. Please keep in mind I can't control the contractor bringing in the material, but I think he will have it done within the time frame specified. I will keep you posted. I realized I forgot to mention the rock check dams to be installed as they seem appropriate on the surface of the Repository cover after the other items are installed.
