Dear Mr. Blauer and Ms. Mack:
The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (the Division) has completed a review of letter dated April 1, 2024 from Ms. Jamiyo Mack of the Strategic System Program, United
States Department of Navy, regarding supplementingATK submittedalternative treatment technologies evaluation. The letter was in response to Division’s December 15, 2024, request for
information on implementation of an alternative treatment technology forenergetic reactive wastes generated at the Navy Industrial Reserve Ordnance Plant (NIROP) in Manga, Utah.
The Navy requests additional time to submit an in-depthevaluation of alternative technologies for the Navy energetic wastes treated at the permitted ATK Bacchus NIROP open burning and
open detonation treatment unit within 18 months of the April 1, 2024, letter from the Navy. Please submit the in-depth supplement evaluation by October 31, 2025.
