HomeMy WebLinkAboutDSHW-2024-007779August 15, 2024 Suzy Smith, Environmental Engineer Western Metals Recycling 4201 West 700 South Salt Lake City, UT 84104 RE:Application for 30-day Hazardous Waste Storage Extension DSHW-2024-007709UTR000013797 Dear Ms. Smith: On August 7, 2024, the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (Division) received an application from Western Metal Recyclingfor a 30-day hazardous waste storage extension (DSHW-2024-007709).The accumulation start date wasJune 10, 2024. As communicated to the Division, Clean Harbors was contacted on June 10, 2024; to remove the waste and they communicated they would not reach the 60-day deadline on August 5, 2024.It is the responsibility of the generator to ensure that hazardous waste is removed 60 days after an episodic generation event. The division is only able to grant 30-day storage extensions for small or large quantity generators and cannot grant an extension for episodic events. In accordance with Utah Administrative Code R315- 262- 16(d) for small quantity generators (SQGs) and R315- 262- 17(b) for large quantity generators ( LQGs). Western Metals Recycling will need to renotify using as a large quantity generator EPA form 8700-12 for the month of the episodic event occurrence and manage the waste as a large quantity generator. This includes making sure the following requirements are met: Hazardous waste contingency plan R315-262-250 through 265 Preparedness & prevention R315-262-250 through 265 Container storage R315-262-17(a)(1)(vi) Central accumulation R315-262-17(a) Required personnel training R315-262-17 Please be aware that we cannot provide a 30-day hazardous waste storage extension for an episodic event.
