Linde Inc. is requesting approval from the Utah Department of Environmen-
tal Quality, Division of Environmental Response and Remediation (DEER) of
a Corrective Action Plan to Monitor Natural Attenuation of petroleum-con-
taminated groundwater at Linde, Inc, located at 12385 West U.S. Highway
Alternate 40, Magna, Utah. The environmental consultant for this project is
APTIM Environmental, LLC.
Site Description
The site is located at 12385 West U.S. Highway Alternate 40, Magna, Utah.
In June 1991, a product line formerly connected to a closed-in-place diesel
underground storage tank (UST) was determined to be the apparent source
of soil and groundwater impacts at the site. In 1994, Linde, Inc (formerly
known as Praxair, Inc.) began remediation of Linde’s diesel fuel release and
KUC’s sulfuric acid release. Approximately 646 cubic yards of petroleum-
contaminated soils were removed from the area of the former diesel UST. In
1995, a closure report with a No Further Action request was submitted to
the UDEQ DERR; a response was not received.
Groundwater sampling indicated the presence of total petroleum hydro-
carbons-diesel range organics (TPH-DRO) above DERR Initial Cleanup Stan-
dards (ISLs).
Proposed Remediation Method
The proposed cleanup approach is Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA).
Proposed Schedule
Groundwater monitoring and sampling on a frequency of one round (6 Wells)
every 15 months. The next sampling event will be conducted in June 2025.
