He ser ved briefly in the Merchant Marines at the end of WWII,
worked in a Salt Lake brick yard, drove milk truck, and
completed barber school. He operated a two chair barber
shop in Roosevelt for eleven years and had the reputation for
giving the best flat top in the Basin. He and Deane owned a
tire store, The Burger Pit, a clothing /shoe store, several
gas/convenience stores and operated the Conoco
Distributorship for 25 years.
He knew ever y nook and cranny of the Basin and
occasionally Deane was waiting on a remote dirt road with
another truck for Mirl to trade o with.
He has employed many Basinites through the years and has
treasure each association and friendship. He leaves behind a
legacy of generosity, and a zeal for hard, honest work. Never
one who felt the need to toot his own horn, Mirl was a
humber ; God fearing man and enjoyed serving in many
church callings and doing temple woth with Deane. Most of
all he loved being called, "Dad", and being asked if he was
Gordon's brother. He always looked too young to actually be
his father.
He is survived by his three daughters, Linda (Jim)
Ercanbrack, Riverton, UT; Lanette (Les) Gardner, Roosevelt;
JaNae (Darreld) Munden, Lindon, UT; 17 grandchildren, 37
great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild and his sisters,
Faye, Leila and Mavis.
He is preceded in death by sisters, Eunola, LuJean, Eldora,
his brother, Wayne and grandsons, Ryan Lessle, and Adam
Mirl Gardner. As his family said their good-byes they could
only imagined his reunion with so many loved ones beyond.
They are quite sure that a er he embraced his sweet wife,
the rest had to wait in line and take their turn while he and
his only son, Gordon Mirl, who died on August 27, 1983,
caught up on BYU football and gas prices.
