The leak occurred sometime between Sunday and this morning near the northeast corner of the intersection, northeast of the Intermountain Power Service Corp Administrative building parking lot. Approximately 1,100 gallons of diesel fuel breached the cement containment area and ran into a ditch. Soil was impacted but no storm drains or water bodies were impacted. Intermountain Power Service Corp's cleanup company applied absorbent to the spill and used a vac truck to vacuum up the diesel. Once residual diesel is dry, they will excavate the contaminated soil for disposal. The caller notified the NRC at 0952 MDT today prior to notifying the DEQ spills hotline. NRC Report # 1404074. I am contacng you as requested with informaon regarding our spill of Fuel Oil (#2 diesel) that was discovered this morning. Aached are a few photos of the incident as well as the Environmental Incident Report that was received from the Utah Department of Environmental Quality Division of Environmental Response and Remediaon. At 6:00 this morning Monday July 8, 2024 one of the IPSC supervisors noced that there was fuel oil in the ditch at the North East Corner of the Amin Parking Lot where the Fuel Oil line Crosses the Road. Most of the Fuel Oil Line is contained in an above ground containment trench. The spill onto the dirt ditch occurred someme over the weekend when the concrete containment trench was breached and leaked fuel oil down into the ditch. The IPSC Environmental group was nofied around 7:15 of the spill and immediately went out to inspect the situaon and gather informaon and the quanty of the release. It is esmate that 1,100 gallons were released onto the ground. As soon as a quanty was esmated the environmental group verified the quanty with the operaons and Maintenance group in a meeng at 9:30. From there the Naonal Response Center, Utah State Emergency Response and Millard County Sherriff ’s office were nofied of the spill. Since the release was found IPSC has used a vacuum truck and other absorbent pads to clean the residual fuel oil. IPSC plans to excavate all contaminated soil. Soil will be sampled for hazardous material so it can be disposed of properly. If there are any further quesons you would like to have answered let me know and I will be more than happy to answer them.
