Director May 31, 2024 James William Papola Zion Canyon Water System Zion National Park ST.RT.9 Springdale, UT 84767 Subject: Notice of Facility ID Change, Monitoring Requirements Remain the Same, Zion Canyon Water System: UTAH27051 James William Papola: The Division of Drinking Water (the Division) recently issued an operating permit for the following facilities: • Birch Creek-Watercress Treatment Plant (TP001) • Lower Grotto Treatment Plant (TP003) • Upper Grotto Treatment Plant (TP004) In accordance with R309-205 drinking water sources shall be sampled from locations that represent the water quality after they have undergone treatment. To capture the water quality of the associated sources, the sampling points and facility ID’s have been changed. Please take note of the changes described below and update laboratory paperwork appropriately. Birch Creek-Watercress Treatment Plant (TP001) Given that the Birch Springs (WS001) and Watercress Springs (WS002) are both treated at the Birch Creek-Watercress Treatment Plant (TP001) prior to entry in the distribution system, the monitoring schedules previously assigned to Sampling Station – 01 02 (SS009) have been reassigned to the Birch Creek-Watercress Treatment Plant (TP001). Please label all samples collected at the Birch Creek-Watercress Treatment Plant (TP001) as TP001 on laboratory paperwork. Upper Grotto Treatment Plant (TP004) It is the Division’s understanding that the Lower Grotto Spring (WS003) and the Upper Grotto Spring (WS004) flow through separate filtration trains (TP003 and TP004) prior to combining James William Papola Page 2 of 3 May 31, 2024 into the Grotto Reservoir (ST002) to meet disinfection requirements. Please collect all samples that represent the Lower and Upper Grotto Springs (WS003 and WS004) after they have undergone treatment at the sample tap located downstream of the Grotto Reservoir (ST002). For simplicity, the monitoring schedules previously assigned to Sampling Station – 03 04 05 (SS286) have been reassigned to the Upper Grotto Treatment Plant (TP004). Please label all samples collected downstream of the Grotto Reservoir as collected at the Upper Grotto Treatment Plant (TP004) and label as TP004 on laboratory paperwork.
