Everett Division Director Therron Blatter Branch Manager INSIDE: Fee Changes 1 Important Dates to Remember 2 What’s Wrong with this Picture? 3 Certification Corner 4 Fee Changes by Doug Hansen 1 During the 2016 Utah legislative session, changes were made to some of the fees within the underground storage tank (UST) program. The annual registration fee, which had remained unchanged since 2003 was increased from $100.00 to $110.00 for tanks that participate in the Petroleum Storage Tank (PST) Fund and from $200.00 to $220.00 for tanks that do not participate on the PST Fund. Additionally, a permit fee was approved for new tank installations. Previously, the cost to the State for administrative and field work associated with installing tanks was covered with general program funds. Increasingly these costs were being supplied out of the PST Fund, placing an undue share of program costs onto Fund participants. By charging a specific fee for new tank installations, those who require the services pay directly for them. The new fee structure is a $500.00 base fee for all tank installation permits. For those areas in the state where UST program staff conduct field inspections during installations, an additional $200.00 per tank will be assessed to cover those costs. All fee changes go into effect on July 1, 2016. ~ continued on page 2 2 ~ continued from page 1 1. Certificates of Compliance are mailed at the start of December. 2. Can you determine what the problem is here? Obvious, entertaining, and creative! The answer is below. While the sensor is upright, it’s not in the lowest part of the containment sump and a jerry-rigged bucket is not the correct way to fix a leak.
