INCIDENT SUMMARY
Salina City Fire Department notified DEQ DE of a diesel release at Holly's Pantry (convenience store) in Salina. It was reported a school bus from the
Sevier School District was getting diesel fuel. After starting the pump the bus driver returned to inside of the bus and unknown to the driver, the pump
handle had fallen out of the fuel tank and continued to pump diesel fuel onto the ground. The pump registered 70.9 gallons when it was turned off.
Unknown how much of the 70.9 gallons make it into the bus and how much was spilled.
Salina City Fire Department put down absorbent to collect freestanding liquid. Some of the fuel seeped into the ground. Ground surface where spilled
occurred was concrete and compacted rotomill surface. It is assumed some of the diesel seeped into soils. Owner of Holly's Pantry will work with
Sevier School District to bring in a clean up contractor to remove and dispose of contaminated soil. DEQ DE met with store manager, Lyn McCoy, to
explain clean up process. Store number is 435-529-7686.
