BACKGROUND: ELSINORE TOWN (2005 PROJECT)
This former gasoline service station on the corner of Main and Center Streets in Elsinore,
Utah was an abandoned gasoline
service station and a community
eyesore at the town’s main entrance
from the U.S. I-70 freeway.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS
UDEQ performed confirmation soil
sampling at the site in April 2005
using federal EPA grant monies to
determine the need for further
corrective action or site closure.
Based on the April investigation,
the site was issued a “No Further
Action” letter in September 2005 by
UDEQ stating that the
environmental issues had been
resolved through the use of
institutional controls as a land use
control for the soil contamination remains on a small portion of the property.
Federal, state and local government partnerships came together to resolve the
environmental liability issues which benefited the local community by allowing the
property redevelopment to occur.
Demolition of the abandoned gasoline service station has been completed, and in
2009 Elsinore City constructed a town hall and fire station, both of which were sorely
needed by the community.
