In evaluating UTTR’s permit renewal application, the Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control (Division) considered progress made on the remediation of the former hazardous waste landfill, Landfill 5. The Division worked closely with the U.S. EPA on open burn and open detonation alternative technology considerations. Based on this evaluation, the Division prepared a Draft of the new RCRA Part B Permit. A 45-day public comment period was held from December 28, 2023, to February 12, 2024, with a public hearing held on January 22, 2024. Based on comments received during this public comment period, the Division prepared a new Draft of the RCRA Part B Permit. This new Draft includes updated language regarding Alternative Technologies in Module II and Module III, updated language regarding Post-Closure Notices in Attachment 8, and an updated definition of “Permittee” in the Table of Contents. Additionally, minor typographical changes were made throughout the Permit. A 45-day public comment period to receive comments on the new draft permit will commence on Tuesday,July 16, 2024,and end at 5:00 pm on Friday, August 30, 2024.
