Re: Herctiles' Proposed Ground Water Sampling Method
Dear Mr. Anderson:
My staff has reviewed your January 23, 1990 letter conceming Hercules altemate
methods for collecting VOA samples to determine if there is a statistical difference in the
methods. The following comments and requests resulted from that review and will
require a written response:
1) Please provide the statistics used to determine sample number,
2) Please provide the well numbers that were used for the statistics,
3) Please provide rationale for only using six wells.
4) Please provide rationale for using 90% confidence level.
5) Please provide rationale for considering that if the means are v^dthin one
standard devation then the sample results would be the same for all three
methods.
6) The statistical determination used six wells, however Hercules plan to test
only one well, please explain.
7) In order for the test to be representative of all conditions at Hercules,
several wells (shallow, deep, fast recharger, slow recharger, etc.) should be
considered.
8) The wells used would have to be approved by the Bureau prior to the test.
9) The test would need to be coordinated v^th the Bureau staff so that
members might observe and split samples.
If you have any questions conceming this letter, please contact Don Verbica at 538-
6170.
