Dear Mr. Hansen:
As required by permit, Northrop Grumman Systems Corporation (NGSC) is submitting the annual waste
minimization certification for activities occurring during calendar year 2023. In 2023, open burning
reductions were achieved through the combined actions of NGSC Promontory’s Hazardous Waste
Control Board (HWCB) and Environmental Engineering. The team developed and is implementing a
reusable bottle system that will eliminate the need for first fire bottles to be disposed of by open burning.
These waste minimization achievements occurred because of NGSC’s internal review committees that
continue to evaluate waste minimization alternatives and waste reduction. NGSC also continues to
implement process improvements which will reduce the amount and toxicity of hazardous waste
generated.
In calendar year 2023 NGSC sent the following materials and associated quantities offsite for recycle or
reuse; used oil 45,481 lb., lamps 7,256 lb., batteries 7,176 lb., paper 49,360 lb., wood 819,405 lb., Spent
Acid 512,667 lb., Electronic Waste 21,385 lb., Silver Waste Recovery 6,841 lb., Aluminum Powder
25,738 lb., Scrap Metal 1,494,602 lb., Isopropyl Alcohol 270,639 lb., Single Stream Recycling 139,800
lb., Gas/Diesel 514 lb., Mercury Debris 11 lb., and 129,092 lb. of ammonium perchlorate were reclaimed
onsite.
Please contact Blair Palmer at (435) 863-2430 or myself at (801) 251-2166, if you have any questions
concerning this report.
