Box 707 Brigham City, Utah 84302-0707 RE: Corrective Action Report for SWMU #553 UTD009081357 Dear Mr. Blauer: The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control has completed its review of ATK’s Corrective Action Report for SWMU #553 (photographic fixer discharge from Building M-19A). Based on the report, it appears that ATK was successful in removing the contaminated soil at the SWMU. The confirmation soil sample results for hexavalent chromium were all non-detect although due to interferences during the analysis, the minimum reporting limits for the samples (0.5 mg/kg and 2.5 mg/kg) were above the EPA Regional Screening Level for residential soil (0.3 mg/kg). The Division believes that a no further action determination is appropriate for SWMU #553 since the hexavalent chromium results were all non-detect, the total chromium results were in the range of background concentrations and the contaminated zone could be identified visually in the field and was removed. Furthermore, additional sampling and analysis would likely result in the same analytical problem with interference. If you have any questions, please call Jeff Vandel at (801) 536-0257.
