Dear Mr. Anderson:
As required by permit, ATK Launch Systems Inc. (ATK) is submitting the annual waste minimization
certification for activities occurring during calendar year 2017. Waste minimization efforts resulted in a
32,700 pound reduction in hazardous waste shipped off site, and energetic waste treated by open burning.
These waste minimization achievements occurred because of ATK's internal review committees that
continue to evaluate waste minimization alternatives and waste reduction. ATK also continues to
implement process improvements which will reduce the amount and toxicity of hazardous waste
generated.
In calendar year 2017 ATK sent the following materials and associated quantities off site for recycle; used
oil 35,075 lb., lamps 3,492 lb., batteries 31,741 lb., paper 63,040 lb., cardboard 87,180 lb., wood 68,536
lb., Spent Acid 456,215 lb., Plastic 7,500 lb., Electronic Waste 22,625 lb., Silver Waste Recovery 554 lb.,
Aluminum Powder 9,063 lb., and Scrap metals 737,196 lb. Additionally, 212,000 lb. of ammonium
perchlorate were reclaimed onsite.
