Box 707 Brigham City, UT 84302-0707 RE: Building M-81B Spill Report ATK Launch Systems – Promontory Facility UTD009081357 Dear Mr. Gooch: The Division of Waste Management and Radiation Control has completed its review of ATK’s Report on the spill of deluge water that occurred at Building M-81B when a coin of propellant that was being cut ignited. As was reported by ATK, a sample of the water that was released from the building contained 7 ppm perchlorate. The results of the soil samples that were collected at the site are well below the EPA Regional Screening Levels for perchlorate (residential scenario). In addition, contamination of groundwater beneath the spill location is not a concern since the depth is approximately 280 feet and several monitoring wells are situated down-gradient of the site. Based on these factors, the Division agrees with ATK that no further action is necessary at the site. If you have any questions, please call Jeff Vandel at (801) 536-0257. Sincerely, Scott T.
