Dear Mr. Gooch:
The Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste has completed its review of ATK's March, 2015 Semiannual
RFI Progress Report. In regards to SWMU #649, the Report indicates that the results for the soil sample
ATK collected slightly exceeded the EPA Residential Regional Screening Level for hexavalent chromium.
Consequently, ATK has proposed to excavate soil at the SWMU (Building M-585) to remove the
contamination and then collect another sample for hexavalent chromium for confirmation purposes.
Based on the results of the TCLP analysis on a soil sample from the small SWMU, the excavated soil may be
managed as a solid waste. In addition, the Division expects that this work will be conducted in accordance
with ATK's SAP and QAPP.
ATK's proposed colrective measure for addressing the contamination at SWMU #649 is hereby approved.
Once the colrective measure is complete, ATK may petition for a determination of no further action in
accordance with Condition VI.F. of the Post-Closure Permit.
