The Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste has completed its review of ATK's Corrosion
Investigation Plan for Monitoring Well Screens at the Promontory facility. The corrosion of stainless
steel screens and other metal parts has been observed in some of the monitoring wells at the facility
for a number of years. The Division is concerned, as discussed in the 2011 Operation and
Maintenance Inspection findings, that severe corrosion could impede groundwater flow through well
screens which could interfere with obtaining representative samples. Therefore, the Division
requested that ATK submit a plan for evaluating the corrosion of screens in monitoring wells at the
facility.
The Corrosion Investigation Plan for Monitoring Well Screens at ATK-Promontory submitted on
April6, 2012 is hereby approved. If you have any questions, please call JeffVandel at (801) 536-
0257.
