The Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste requested that ATK sample these springs to provide updated data for contaminated groundwater monitoring at the facility. The analytical results for these samples are enclosed with this letter. The two primary contaminants that have been observed at the ATK facility are trichloroethene and perchlorate. Both of these contaminants were below detection limits in the Connor and Fork Spring samples. In addition, no other contaminants were detected in either sample and the concentrations of metals observed are within background levels. These results are consistent with the results that were obtained from sampling the springs in 2001, 2002, 2006 and 2010. In summary, it appears that Connor and Fork Springs have not been impacted by contaminated groundwater. ATK monitors other springs, located along Highway 83 (e.g. Shotgun Spring), and wells as part of its groundwater monitoring program that is regulated by the Division. Contaminants have been detected in some of these springs. A Human Health Risk Assessment (HHRA) for groundwater contamination is currently being conducted by ATK. A HHRA Report was submitted to the Division in April, 2009. This report was reviewed and comments were sent to ATK. The Division is currently reviewing ATK’s response to the comments and a revised HHRA. Please note that ATK will be required to conduct an Ecological Risk Assessment following the HHRA. If you have any questions, please contact Jeff Vandel at (801) 536-0257. Sincerely, ORIGINAL DOCUMENT SIGNED BY SCOTT T. ANDERSON ON 8/17/2010 Scott T.
