UTAH DIVISION OF SOLID AND HAZARDOUS WASTE
PUBLIC INFORMATION
The ATK Launch Systems – Promontory facility submitted to the Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (DSHW) a Class 3 modification (10.01569) for its hazardous waste Part B permit on
May 3, 2010. The Permittee requested to add treatment of hazardous waste by open burning and open detonation to the Part B permit; remove treatment of waste solid rocket motors by disassembly;
add a new storage site for solid hazardous waste; add and adjust Closure Plans for the new and existing hazardous waste management units and modify permit conditions as appropriate to
accommodate the proposed changes. Following the 60-day public comment period and an information meeting held by ATK Launch Systems, the DSHW held a hearing and a 45-day public comment
period for the draft approval. Public comments were received from the public and ATK. Minor changes, based on some of these comments, were made to the draft permit modification. The
modification was approved on September 30, 2010. For further information regarding this modification, please contact Jeff Vandel at (801) 536-0257.
*The final decision(s) in this notice may be appealed by following the procedures found in R315-12 of the Utah Hazardous Waste Management Rules.
