RE: Request for Extension of 90-Day Hazardous Waste Accumulation Time Limit
(EPA ID # UTD009081357)
Dear Mr. Ctirtis:
The Division of Solid and Hazardous Waste (the Division) has received your request to store four
drums of hazardous waste (U122) at Thiokol for longer than the 90-day limit for accumulation of
hazardous wastes. According to your letter, this extension ofthe 90-day limit is needed because
Thiokol's hazardous waste disposal contractor cannot pickup the dmms before the time limit expires.
In regard to obtaining an extension to the 90-day hazardous waste accumulation time limit, it is
stated in the Utah Administrative Code, R315-5-10 (which incorporates by reference 40 CFR
^262.34), that "an extension of up to 30 days may be granted at the discretion of the Executive
Secretary on a case-by-case basis."
You indicated in your letter that Thiokol expects the four dmms of U122 hazardous waste will be
picked up by the waste disposal contractor sometime around January 14,1999. An extension of 30
days is hereby granted to Thiokol to store the hazardous waste on-site until February 8, 1999. lfyou
have any questions regarding this letter, please contact Jeff Vandel at 538-9413.
Sincerely,
'Dennis R. Downs, Executive Secretary
