At the request of Mr. Paul Hancock of ATK Launch Systems, we are pleased to submit two
copies ofthe revised ''Pilot Test Work Plan lo Evaluate Enhanced Anaerobic Bioremediation of
Perchlorate- and Solvent-Contaminated Groundwater.^' This work plan has been revised to
address comments sent to David Gosen of ATK by Dennis Downs of your agency, dated
November 8. 2006. Also enclosed are summary responses to those comments.
Please contact Mr. Hancock or Mr. Gosen ifyou have additional needs with respect to this plan.

3.4 Data Management, Analysis, and Interpretation
Please include a brief evaluation on the impact to water quality from the injection of soybean oil
once the analytical data has been interpreted.
Section 3.5 has been modified to indicate that the data assessment will include an evaluation of
the impact to water quality, if any, from injecting the soybean oil into the groundwater.
3.7 Residuals Management
Please be aware that any groundwater from the treatment zone that isn't injected into the aquifer
must be managed as hazardous waste due to the presence of listed constituents.
The only water pumped from the treatment zone that will not be reinjected will be purge water
from sampling. Section 3.7 has been modified to indicate that this purge water will be
containerized and treated at the on-site wastewater treatment facility.
Appendix A
In regard to the calculations for estimating the quantity of soybean oil that will be required:
1) Is secondary porosity accoimted for in the porosity figures used (shown tmder the heading
"Hydrauhc Characteristics")?
Secondary porosity was accounted for in the porosity estimates used in Appendix A.
2) WTiere did the concentrations for the background compounds (nitrate, etc.) come from that
were used to determine the background hydrogen demand?
Background concentrations of nitrates and other constituents were obtained from a review ofthe
ATK water quality data base (the same source usedto develop the typical concentrations found
in Table 1 ofthe document).
