RE: Response to State letter dated December 6,2004 regarding
Compliance Evaluation Inspection on September 22 and 23,2004 at
ATK Thiokol - Promontory (EPA ID #UTD009081357)
Dear Mr. Downs:
During the inspection, your staff discovered tire ruts over some of the closed Liquid
Thermal Treatment Area (LTTA) caps. We have completed raking these areas to fill in
the ruts with existing gravel.
While investigating the cause of these ruts, we discovered that a private contractor hired
to control weeds had driven on these units. Our 2005 weed spraying plan now prohibits
driving on these caps. We have also discussed this issue with the Bum Grounds
operators and Roads & Grounds personnel, to make sure they know not to drive on these
caps. In addition, we will install signage near the units, which read "Environmental Site,
Do Not Disturb".
Enclosed with this letter is a copy of the revised LTTA quarterly inspection plan, which
includes modifications, suggested by your staff. We will begin using the revised
inspection form as soon as it is approved by the division. Please let me know if our
corrective actions have adequately addressed your concems, or if additional action is
