Dear Mr. Downs
RE: State Letter to Thiokol dated March 16,2004, regarding closure of
certain facilities at the Promontory site
We appreciate your assistance on closure of these facilities. During phone
communications with Mr. Jeff Vandel of your staff, we have agreed to handle removal of
the closed buildings from our permit during our permit review and re-issuance, which is
currently underway. These building closures also require modification of our closure
plan. ATK Thiokol agrees with the State's comment in your August 26, 2003 letter, that
our closure plan is outdated and is in need of modification and updating. Our intent is to
re-write this plan in a format that closely follows the UTTR plan, and create a stand-alone
document.
In order to dedicate the time needed to create this closure plan, we request a due date
extension until June 30, 2004. With this extra time, we believe we can create a plan that
will more closely meet the desires of the State and ATK Thiokol. Please let me know if
this due date is acceptable to the State. If you have any questions or need clarification,
