Thiokol wishes to thank Mr. Brad Maulding and Mr. Jeff Vandel of your staff for
their recent efforts in helping Thiokol resolve several difficult environmental issues
where;a timely resolution was critical. In February and March 1998, the Division
of Solid and Hazardous Waste provided assistance to Thiokol Corporation in
clarifying the regulatory status of tanks originally constructed under a RCRA
Emergency permit, allowing us to use them for storage and evaporation of non-
hazardous wastes. This project involved a complex regulatory evaluation, and
consultation and negotiation between DSHW and the Utah Division of Water
Quality to reach a solution. Your staff helped us resolve these issues in less than
30 days. They have also helped resolve issues concerning our Corrective Action
Management Unit and issued two emergency hazardous waste storage permits.
Thiokol remains committed to protecting human health and the environment, and
appreciates the help and consideration your staff consistently provides to aid us in
these endeavors.
