Subject: Notice of Intent to Close the RD&D Facility at Thiokol,
EPA#UTD009081357
Thiokol is currently operating a facility under an RD&D permit that expires on June 22,
1998. We have received three extensions pn this permit and have now completed our
research program. Arrangements are presently being made to dispose ofthe two
Minuteman Motors at the Lake Side Air Force Facility. We anticipate having the motors
removed from our storage facility before June 22.
This letter is intended to serve as official notice of our intent to complete final closure of
the RD&D facilities, as required by 40 CFR 264.112(d). Closure activities will begin on
July 6, 1998 and will be completed within the time frame specified in our approved
closure plan dated February 1994. If you have any questions, please contact Gene
Curtis of my staff at [phone].

under my direction or supervision in accordance with a system design to assure that
qualified personnel properiy gather and evaluate the information submitted. Based on
my inquiry of the person or persons who manage the system, or those persons directly

knowledge and belief, true, accurate and complete. I am aware that there are significant
