Thiokol Corporation has requested from the Utah Division ofSolid and Hazardous Waste, a Class
I pemiit modification to the Corrective Action Management Unit (CAMU) portion ofthe Post-
Closure Permit, to allow a change in disposal options of treated soils. We have also requested
that soils from SWMU #444 be includeci in the CAMU as they are equivalent to the currently
permitted wastes. Thiokol-proposes, foiiowing treatm.ent as outlined in the CAMU plan, to
dispose ofthe nonhazardous soils as sohd waste in our permitted, onsite, solid waste landfill. The
CAMU and landfill are located at the Promomtory facility, 24 miles west of Interstate 15 on Hwy
83.

NOTICE OF REQUEST FOR TEMPORARY AUTHORIZATION
March 12,1998
Thiokol Corporation has reqiiested a Temporary Authorization to permit storage of waste
rocket motors at the Promontory FaciUty located 24 miles west of Interstate 15 on Hwy.
83, prior to thermal destmction. Several solid propellant storage buildings have been
included as part ofa Class 3 permit modification. This Temporary Authorization would
permit storage of rocket motors pending approval ofthe permit modificatbn. The permit
mod will allow storage of rocket motors and solid propellant for up to one year.
All motors/propellant stored under this Temporary Authorization will be in fiill compliance
with the permit modification submittal and 40 CFR 264.
