Box 689 Brigham City, UT 84302-0689 RE: Solid Rocket Motor Disposal Facility Permit Renewal Request Dear Mr. Thompson: On March 15, 1996, the Division received a request from Thiokol to renew the Solid Rocket Motor Disposal Facility's (SRMD) Research, Development and Demonstration (RD&D) Pemiit. The permit was originally issued on June 16, 1994 for the period of one year, and was renewed for an additional year on June 20, 1995. The Division also acknowledges that an updated closure cost estimate was submitted with the permit renewal request, and that the Financial Assurance Mechanism for the facility was updated last October. A public information meeting on the permit renewal was held on May 8, 1996 and a public hearing associated with a 30-day public comment period was held on May 22, 1996. These meetings were advertised in local newspapers and on KSL Radio. No comments were received from the public at either of these meetings. Your request for a one-year extension of the SRMD RD&D Permit is hereby granted. This permit is effective for one additional year as dated and shall remain in effect until June 21, 1997, unless revoked and reissued [pursuant to R315-3-15(a) or b] or terminated [pursuant to R315-3-16] or continued in accordance with R315-3-11(d) and R3I5-3-22(d). All conditions within the permit, as issued, will remain in place throughout the one-year extension. Enclosed is a signature page to be added to the Executive Secretary statement at the beginning of Volume I.
